The QUASAR saxophone quartet is benefiting from great recognition on the international stage, commanding stability, and an unquenchable thirst for new music. At age 28, the ensemble is now firmly established as one of the world’s leading contemporary music sax quartets. It is very active in work commissioning and creative residences, putting a lot of resources into training and helping young composers.

For its 2022 appearance, QUASAR has selected in its vast repertoire an exclusive, brilliantly diverse, all-acoustic program tailor-fit to the St-Christophe d’Arthabaska Church. We will be treated to Iannis Xenakis’s sole composition for saxophone “XAS”, from 1987. The other works on offer are all much more recent. Quebec will be represented with “Cathédrale-Lumière” by Analia Llugdar, an Argentinian composer who has been living in Montréal for the past 20 years. There will also be a few North American and Quebec premieres, including works by Sascha Etezazi (Germany) and Donald J. Stewart (USA), and two works by hardcore guitar player turned contemporary music composer Wolf Edwards.

A smorgasbord of music to stimulate, confound and seduce everyone!
